I think most agree — fast food chicken nuggets are not healthy. However, that doesn’t stop many hurried parents from whipping through the drive thru to get the unhappy meal for their children. New research is showing what these fast food favorites are really made of and it isn’t pretty.
Fast food chicken nuggets include high amounts of partially hydrogenated (code word for trans fats) oils, genetically modified oils, “other” ingredients and numerous potentially toxic chemicals.
The American Journal of Medicine recently published a study where they found that 60% of the “meat” in a chicken nugget is actually fat, blood vessels, ground bone and gristle. Even though, companies like Burger King claim “all white meat”, KFC says “100% breast meat, and McDonald’s states “made with USDA inspected white meat” but the research is showing they contain otherwise.
So what is exactly in a fast food chicken nugget?
According to the ingredients listed on McDonald’s website they also put these suspect ingredients into their chicken nugget mix:
- TBHQ (chemical preservative)
- Autolyzed yeast extract (similar to MSG)
- Corn (genetically modified)
- Dimethyl Polysiloxane (anti-foaming agent)
- Hydrogenated soybean oil (trans fat)
- Bleached wheat (gluten)
- Sugar (dextrose)
These ingredients are downright scary at best and dangerous to your health and your families’ health. Click To Keep Reading
